General applications include use with wood (under 20% moisture content), smokeless coal, gas, and oil appliances, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 600°C (T600 designation). The gather hood attaches to the base of the chimney, and appropriate provisions must be made to secure bottom fixings to ensure a gas-tight seal using fire cement, ceramic rope/tape, or high-temperature sealant. Regular maintenance through sweeping by a competent person is crucial for maintaining chimney efficiency and safety, especially for solid fuel appliances, where sweeping is recommended twice annually.
