In accordance with Approved Document J, it’s crucial to install this flue terminal facility at the correct height and position to maximise efficiency and safety. Regular inspection and maintenance are vital; ensure the chimney pot is undamaged, and the chimney stack is free of cracks or defective mortar. The flue lining should be sound, free of debris and any mortar ingress wiped clean to maintain a smooth passage for flue gases. Insulating material, such as weak lime mortar or lightweight vermiculite, should be used to fill the space between the flue liner and the chimney stack to improve insulation. Additionally, a damp proof course is necessary below the top layer of brickwork. This attention to detail ensures the top of the chimney stack remains flat and secure.
